The Performance Evaluation Program (PEP) is a PMTNM sponsored non-competitive general audition activity. It offers students an outstanding opportunity to evaluate personal progress. Twelve levels are available for students from Elementary through Adult. Rather than compete against other students, participants in PEP are able to compare their progress to a standard as determined and evaluated by noted music educators from outside the AMTA organization. An evaluator or judge is selected by the State PEP chair based on teaching experience, musicianship, past adjudication, and personal rapport in working with students. Twelve performance levels are available to insure an evaluation relative to the normal expectation for a student by age and musical background. Generally, three pieces of music are performed, from memory for individual evaluation by the judge. Written comments are prepared at the conclusion of the performance, and a rating is established. A blue ribbon is awarded for superior performance. A "par" performance rates a red ribbon, and a White ribbon indicates a performance, which while good, leaves room for improvement. In addition to the ribbon, the teacher will provide a certificate to document student participation in the program. A student who has participated in PEP for 3 years will receive a trophy. Auditions are available to Piano, Voice, Organ and Other Instrumentalists. The teacher will determine the performance level for each student and will select repertoire consistent with the level. (Note Repertoire links to left) Length of the performance shall not exceed 5 minutes for levels 1-4; 10 minutes for levels 5-8; and 16 minutes for levels 9-12. The student will provide a copy of each piece of music for the judge. Measures should be numbered to expedite commentary. Reproductions of copyrighted music may not be used. Albuquerque MTA 2008 PEP auditions are currently scheduled to be held at Charles Pianos on April 25 and 26. For information or details, do not hestiate to e-mail chairman Anne Ferguson-Laird , or call at 766-7696. Teachers wishing to participate need to submit a completed Teacher Application Form . Form can be accessed in the Forms section of the website and should be in the hands of the Anne by March 28, 2008. Participating students will have completed copies of the Student Evaluation form along with copies of the music performed for the Judge when arriving for the audition. All forms can be downloaded and reproduced as needed. |
